Elizabeth McIntosh signs with Hofstra University

Elizabeth McIntosh has signed her Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Hofstra University.  We were able to sit down with Liz and ask her a few questions about her decisions and career at Franklin High School.

Liz, why did you pick Hofstra?

“I decided to play lacrosse for Hofstra University for multiple reasons including the Coaching Staff, the location, and the facilities.  The Coach, Abby Morgan, was very welcoming and her coaching techniques are a great fit for me.  Hofstra is located on Long Island which is close to the beach and the city.  The facilities are incredible.  They are currently installing a brand new locker room to over look the stadium.  They have a ‘Pride Lounge’ with large glass panel windows over looking the field.  The school is also privileged to have access to an indoor facility.  This is the same indoor facility that the New York Jest plays in – ‘The Jet’s Bubble’.  All of these reasons contributed to my decision to play at Hofstra.”

What other schools were you interested in?

University of Vermont and Towson University

What do you want to major in?

“Hofstra has a great teaching program that I’d like to get involved in.  You get the opportunity to teach at schools in New York City and other parts of New York which would be a great experience for any future teaching jobs I may take on.”

What positions are you hoping to play and why?

“I’m hoping to play a midfield-attacker.  My entire life I’ve played midfield, focusing more on the attacking side.  I am also capable of playing center and taking the draw, which is a midfielding position as well.”

What else have you done to reach this point in your career?

“I’ve played club lacrosse since I was in 8th grade every summer and fall.  In the winter, I played indoor lacrosse with my club team, Check-Hers Elite, and the Franklin team.  In addition to actually playing in the off season, I trained twice a week with trainers at S3 training.”

What advice do you have for freshmen who want to play collegiate lacrosse?

“You have to work really hard all the time, even when you think nobody’s watching because somebody’s always watching.  Staying in good physical shape and practicing as much as you can is really so you’ll never have to worry about being ‘rusty’ when the season does finally come around.  On a different note, start emailing coaches of schools that you’re interested in now.  The sooner you get in contact with them, the more interested they’ll become.”

How has your family helped with your decision?

“Both of my parents love sports.  My mom knows more about lacrosse than I dos she kept me updated on everything there was to know about all of the school’s teams.  Overall, my parents and my brothers were all supportive of wherever I decided to go.”

What do you hope to accomplish during your senior year, both academically and athletically?

I’m hoping to make the All-State team for lacrosse.  I’ve made All-Divison but never All-State.  Academically, I’m hoping to stay on the honor roll and maintain above a 3.5 GPA.”

GOOD LUCK LIZ!
