MILFORD MILL EARNS FIRST BALTIMORE COUNTY TITLE SINCE 1964

by Lem Satterfield

and Andrew Straub

Milford Mill’s Adeleke Ibironke won a 130-pound clash of returning fourth-place state finishers, 14-11, over Eastern Tech’s Dustin Peddicord, earning his second straight Baltimore County title in the process on Saturday night at Parkville High.

In addition, his Millers’ teammate, Ar-Rashid White (135), edged previously once-beaten Tommy LaVey of Overlea, 5-4, to win his county title as White and Ibironke were among 10 Miford Mill wrestlers who finished in the top four of their respective weight classes to lead their program to its first county title since 1964.

Former county champ Terrence Owens (125), Patrick Sweet (215) and Charles Blue (171) finished second — the latter for the second straight year — Darian Allen (103) and Peter Sweet (189) were third, and Lance Coles (112), Brandon Ragin (152) and Ryan Smith (160)  were all fourth as Millers (211.5 points) dethroned third-place Hereford (194), and out-distanced runner-up Owings Mills (200).

The Millers are ranked 16th in the DigitalSports-Maryland State Wrestling Association Top 20, behind fifth-ranked Owings Mills and 12th-ranked Hereford.

The runner-up Eagles, winners of last weekend’s Class 2A-1A state duals title, were paced by title-winning efforts from Avi Friedman (103), Cody Rosen-Stone (140), state champ Tony Mack (160) and Julio Trujillio (285).

Friedman, Rosen-Stone and Mack all earned their second county titles, with Friedman, also a regional titlist, rising to 31-0, and Mack, to 32-0.

For third-place Hereford, three-time state champion Josh Asper (171) won his third straight county title, and Jeremy Keil (145), his second consecutive crown.

Asper also rose to 31-0 on the year, improved his winning streak to 81 straight bouts and raised his career winning streak to 145-7 during his ongoing quest to become only Maryland’s third four-time public schools state champion.

Also winning his second straight county titles were Lansdowne’s Earl Eppard (119) and Perry Hall’s Ryan Pittillo (189).

Pittillo improved to 31-2 on the year, while Eppard, a returning fourth-place state finisher, was joined on the victory podium by teammate Josh Ornstein (152), who edged New Town’s Josh Mann, 7-5, for his title.

Pikesville’s Ben Baker (112), Woodlawn’s Deonte Carter (125) and Parkville’s Andrew Ewers (215) all remained unbeaten on the year.

Baker improved to 19-0, Carter, a Nebraska state champion, to 24-0, and Ewers, to 32-0.
